Nevería is a small mountainous community that awaits you at only 2 hours (62 km) from Oaxaca City. It is also the youngest and the smallest of the “Pueblos Mancomunados” (Commonlands) of the Sierra Norte, having about 100 inhabitants whose houses rest upon a small valley between the mountains. The community owes its name to the activity that its first inhabitants dedicated themselves to towards the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Taking advantage of the intense winter temperatures during November and February, they elaborated and commercialized natural ice. During your visit to this community you will be able to get into direct contact with nature through its unique walking trails, or by cycling and horse riding across agricultural fields and pine-oak forests where epiphytic plants such as orchids and bromeliads are abundant as are birds and mammals common totemperate forests.
Santa Martha Latuvi is a picturesque mountainous community which stands out for its natural beauty and the hospitality of its inhabitants who are dedicated to caring for nature and respecting their traditions. Latuvi (“rolled leaf” in zapoteco) is located at 2450 m above sea level and awaits you at only 53 km from the City of Oaxaca. It has large extensions of forests, hills, peaks and ridges giving you spectacular views and providing you with an opportunity to experience beautiful landscapes through any one of its tours be it walking, cycling or horse riding. This is a village that you cannot afford to miss visiting.
